Ben

Ben brings 8 years of tutoring experience to the team, covering test prep (ACT, SAT, SSAT, ISEE), and academic tutoring. His mentoring and teaching strategy is a balance between encouragement and profound patience, with a dash of the Socratic method. Ben has a natural ability to connect with shy or even hard-to-reach students. He has worked with elementary school students struggling with reading and writing, middle-school students reticent to tutoring, and high school students tackling advanced math courses.

A native of rural Illinois, Ben holds a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His program included a full year of Calculus and coursework in structural engineering. Alongside tutoring, Ben has pursued a practice as a craftsman and designer in Japanese-style woodworking. His meditative practice is his work; the dialogue between his hands, razor-sharp tools and each piece of wood.

"Ben is extremely bright, calm, patient, compassionate and punctual. I have always found him to be appropriately professional with us. He is also an excellent tutor." - Parent

"Ben has been an excellent tutor. He is low-key and clear in his explanations and demonstrations providing my daughter the opportunity to learn. Frustration on the part of the student can deter learning. I have observed my daughter and Ben on numerous occasions. My daughter is relaxed and the bottom line has been an improvement in her math homework and grades." -Parent
