Gara is dedicated to helping students of all ability levels reach their full potential and academic goals in math. She finds it greatly rewarding to help children master a skill or learn a new concept. Gara has been working with middle school and high school students for several years, mainly tutoring mathematics in one-on-one sessions. Gara has a methodical approach to problem-solving and study habits, adjusted to the individual student’s knowledge level and needs. Having struggled herself with understanding mathematics during her high-school years, she believes anyone can learn math as long as a teacher can reach out in a language that speaks to that individual. Having learned this lesson, Gara strives to help students excel in math by developing an understanding of mathematics rather than just learning how to solve a particular homework problem. Gara's passion is to help children achieve the “aha” moment and overcome a perceived weakness.
Gara graduated with a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering at Lund University, Sweden. She worked for more than ten years in the mobile technology industry in Sweden, including mentoring and coaching new colleagues. During this time, she trained in karate, not only as a way to practice discipline and focus but also as a continuous search for improvement and perfection. After moving to the Bay Area five years ago, she started tutoring and was inspired to rediscover the challenge and fun of teaching mathematics. When not tutoring, Gara enjoys baking, hiking, and camping -- and she is also in the midst of learning to paraglide.
