Kate
Kate views tutoring as an art form—a blend of creativity, dedication, research, and joy. She enjoys tailoring every lesson to match a student’s unique interests and needs.
Kate practices “listening to understand rather than to respond” (Dr. J. Stuart Ablon). More than passing down knowledge, she strives to illuminate students’ inherent strengths and build long-lasting skills that will support their learning for years to come.
With experience from early childhood to under-graduate level, Kate began her career in education as a writing tutor at her alma mater, Whitman College. After graduating with Honors in English Literature, she split time as an assistant kindergarten teacher and private tutor. She went on to spend three incredible years as a lead early childhood educator at the Teton Science Schools, designing innovative curricula inspired by the Reggio Emilia philosophy.
Kate was awarded the Princeton in Latin America Fellowship in 2024. She is spending her fellowship year with the The Dream Project in the Dominican Republic, leading a research study on social-emotional learning in Montessori classrooms and designing a literacy curriculum that incorporates gamication and project-based learning for primary and middle school students.
Kate loves teaching languages! She specializes in tutoring Spanish, English literature, phonics, and literacy. Living in the Dominican Republic allows her to practice Spanish daily, making her an exceptional tutor for students seeking an immersive and fun language learning opportunity.
Beyond teaching, Kate is an artist, outdoorswoman, and yogi. She is currently pursuing a 200-hour certification in Ashtanga Yoga. She loves finding ways to integrate mindfulness and creativity into her teaching.
